Tie Clip Accessories – Tie down that tie

Tie clip accessories can be broken down into four categories: tie clips, tie bars, tie chains and tie tacks. They are all made from various types of metal including gold and silver.

A tie clip accessory is more than just a decorative piece of jewelry. It serves a function and that is to keep your tie in place and prevent it from moving.

Tying it all together

The tie clip (tie clasp) is the most popular of the tie accessories. You use the tie clip by pressing down on the spring loaded end, sliding it horizontally across the tie and shirt then release the spring loaded end causing it to clamp down on the shirt and tie thus securing the tie to the shirt.

Tie bars are used by simply sliding the bar across the middle of the tie and attaching it to your shirt.

Tie chains are another way to secure your tie to your dress shirt. The top part of the tie chain is fitted over one of the shirt’s buttons and the tie is placed through the chain’s loop. Only the chain will be visible on the front of the tie.

The tie tack is comprised of a backing, chain, weight and decorative pin. To use the tie tack you first pierce your tie with the decorative pin into the backing. Then slip the weight through a button hole in your dress shirt securing it.

Choosing a tie accessory is a matter of personal preference as they all do a good job of securing ties.
