Half Windsor Knot - The modest Windsor Knot

The Half Windsor knot is smaller than the Windsor knot, but when used with wider ties it looks just like the Full Windsor knot. This knot also eliminates gaps between the tie and collar like the Full Windsor and produces a nice symmetrical, triangular knot. Half Windsor knots are well suited for ties that are made from light to medium weight material.

A modern more casual knot

The Half Windsor is best for casual, less confrontational settings and are not as aggressive as the Full Windsor. This knot also has a classic look like the Full Windsor and is great for men who want to project a relaxed confidence.

Are you ready to start knotting up that tie? Okay, stand in front of your mirror and follow the instructions below. Remember practice makes perfect knots!

8. Use both hands and tighten the knot and draw up to the collar.

Were you successful? Great! If not, keep trying. When completed, the ends of the tie should be of equal length or the wide end of the tie should be a bit longer than the narrow end.

If you find that the tie appears too short after completing the Half Windsor it may be that your tie isn’t long enough to accommodate this knot. Either find another longer tie or try a different knot other than a Windsor.
