Designer Necktie
Ties that are not made well, or use poor quality materials, will not hang well when you wear it and may cause you to look worse than not having a tie at all. Additionally, low-budget ties will not last as long. Truly - you get what you pay for.
Good Ties are made of...
No matter the material, a good tie should be somewhat stiff all the way up and down it.
The firmness of the tie indicates a good lining and the potential for a long life. The type of stitching used in the tie is also important. If a tie is too firmly attached to the lining it will not hang properly. To check this, hold the tie in one hand at the half-way point and see how the tie hangs off your hand. The tie should hang very straight. Straight is first rate! A good tie should also be made of three pieces of material.
Aside from the price and high-quality, other features of a "designer" necktie are up to the individual necktie wearer. Some consider certain tie makers "designer" such as Raffaello, Forzieri, or Bentley Cravats. Others think that the design on a tie makes a "designer" tie. For example, some will argue that a Beatles tie, a tie with saxophones on it that was purchased at the Kenny G concert, or a Harry Potter tie is a "designer" tie. Others believe that a tie that supports a cause, such as a children's hospital, or a charity like UNICEF are designer ties. There are even ties that raise awareness of certain medical conditions like ulcers, Parkinson's disease, and the West Nile virus. Some people think that a tie bought in a museum, or a fancy Paris department store automatically classifies the tie as a designer. But, ask any proud father and he'll tell you that the tie with his child's handprints is the best design of all.
Now-a-days, women are wearing ties too. Some are required to wear them as part of their work uniform. Others use ties to make a fashion statement. Certainly a woman who spends close to $200 on a purse and perhaps even more on Manolo Blahnik shoes can understand the value of a designer necktie.
